Emily Christene “Chris” Hoskins, 81, passed away February 8, 2020. Chris was born on her grandmother’s family farm at the mouth of the Buffalo River in north central Arkansas. She was the third child of six children. The family moved to Kansas City in January 1951, the year of the big flood. She attended Raytown High School and married Donal Hoskins, whom she loved at first sight, in 1955. They were blessed with three sons, Steve (Debby), David (Rhonda) and Mike (Darla). Chris devoted her life to her husband and sons.
Chris cherished time with family and friends. Chris may be a perpetual memorial in the hearts of those she touched. Her love was reflected in how she modeled her life and her guide and support of family values was a force that influenced the lives of others throughout the trials of life. She was the Director of the Grandview Assistance Program for 5 years, and kept score in many baseball games for 30 years. Her creative skills were well-known and displayed in her ability to make wedding dresses, wedding cakes, birthday cakes, and wedding flower bouquets.
Chris was known as “Nana” to her 9 grandchildren: Valerie (Moses), Danny (Missy), Steven (Billie Jean), David (Laura), Rebecca (Cheyenne), Christal (Mario), Sam, James and Andrea (Jack), 20 great grandchildren: Davin, Emma, Isac, Brody, Lilly, Noah, Stevie, Charlie, Emilee, Jacob, Cameron, Bronc, Mario Jr., Hannah, Benjamin, Lucas, Zaiden, Macklin, Mila, Mason, Kennedy and Quinn, and extended family. Chris was extremely genuine with her friendship with Jan, Ann, Patsy, Marilyn and Betty. Chris enjoyed the simple things in life such as time spent with the whole family at the lake. Many holidays were spent at Popie’s and Nana’s house. Chris had a beautiful name and was a beautiful person, and had thirteen babies named after her. It is better to have a baby named for you to commemorate your life; this is a dedication of love and remembrance of joy for a lifetime. Her faith was one of her strongest attributes, from her music to praying for the stop lights to change to green, her faith in Jesus never wavered.
Visitation will be held Saturday, February 15, 2020, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at McGilley & George Funeral Home, 12913 Grandview Road, Grandview, MO, followed by services at 11:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Belton Cemetery in Belton, MO.
