JOHN “Jack” CLIFFORD MARTIN left us to join God early Monday morning, February 10, 2020. Jack was born April 16, 1929 in Cleveland, Ohio and was the son of Frank James Martin Sr. and Alice (nee Pendelton) Martin (both deceased). At 17, He graduated from East High School, and soon after, enlisted in the US Army. Serving his country from 1946 to 1948, he was stationed in the Korean in the DMZ as a border guard. He recounted stories about his time in Korea, including stories about taking a massive army ship across the Pacific Ocean. Jack was honorably discharged in January, 1948 after spending six months in a military hospital in Texas. He returned home to Cleveland and met the girl of his dreams, Mary Ann Hughes. Jack and Mary Ann were married on June 28, 1952. He graduated from the Case Institute of Technology with a B.S in Electrical Engineering in 1954. Jack and Mary Ann built a new home in Wickliffe, Ohio in 1956. He did much of the work in the house, including building the bedrooms on the second floor for their growing family. Jack was an avid gardener and grew his own tomatoes, cucumbers, and vegetables in the backyard. In October, 1968, they relocated to Lyndhurst, Ohio. Jack was an Electrical Engineer for Bailey Meter Company. He retired at age 50, and then went right back to work for Vitec for another 15 years. He held several patents through Bailey Meter for his engineering work. He was an avid golfer who was involved in many Men’s Leagues, and volunteered at Fowler’s Mill after his retirement. Jack was an excellent bridge player and belonged to several bridge groups. His “girls” were born while they lived in Wickliffe and survive: Christine Brault (Pierre), Kathleen McGill (Scott) Janet DiFranco (Valerino) and Alice O’Donnell (Timothy). Mary Ann passed away in 2011, and Jack moved back to Wickliffe to live with his oldest daughter. Jack leaves a strong family legacy in his grandchildren: Pierre Jacques Brault (Brian Marshall), Dominic Brault (Rachael), Monica Camino (Christopher), Rosemarri Colosi (Bryan), Morena DiFranco, Bridget O’Donnell, Kara Shaw (Kenny), and Abbey Gulley (Jef). He was “Gi-Gi” (Great- Grandpa) to Henri and Sonny Brault; Abriana and Natalina Camino; Capri Colosi; Noli, Lily, Poppy and Declan Shaw. Survivors also include sisters-in-law Ione Martin and Pat Martin, and many nieces and nephews. Jack was predeceased by his brothers Frank and Bill Martin, sisters Mary Arlene Martin and Marge McIntrye (Jay, deceased). Jack was soft-spoken, a kind and gentle soul. He loved his family and enjoyed Sunday, afternoons when he and Mary Ann would host family pasta dinners.The family is very grateful to The Hospice of the Western Reserve, and Mt.
