On Wednesday, February 12, 2020, Joe Gray Pierce (83) passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones at home. Joe was born on May 18, 1936 in Princeton, Arkansas to Joseph Knox (J.K.) and Miriam (Mann) Pierce.
Joe is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Cecile (Favor) Pierce, along with their children: Joe Jr. (Carolyn), and children, Amanda (Andrew), and Alyssa; Roger (Vicki), and his children, Jarrod (Hannah), and Summer, and her child, Kenny (Brittani); Jeff (Gayla), and his children, Vilma (Geo), Sarah (Jared), Andrew (Kayla), and Christopher, and her children, Jessica (Chris), Sean, Corey (Susan); Dara (Steve), and children, Andrea, and Emily. He is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren; a niece, Rebecca; a brother, Jim (Barbara), and other extended family.
Joe graduated from Ashdown High School in 1954 where he played football and was well liked. He enlisted in the Navy in March of 1956 and while stationed in South Texas he met Cecile Favor of Sinton, Texas. It was love at first sight! They married shortly after they met, on August 2, 1958. After his time in the Navy, he and Cecile moved to Houston, Texas where he served with the Houston Fire Department for over 30 years, retiring as Senior Captain.
A memorial service is scheduled for Friday, March 6, 2020, 10:00 a.m. at The Settegast – Kopf Co @ Sugar Creek 15015 Southwest Freeway, Sugar Land, Texas 77478 with a reception to follow. A committal service is scheduled for 2:15 p.m. at Houston National Cemetery @ 10410 Veteran Memorial Dr., Houston, TX 77038.( Please Use LANE 2)
