Mike was a very dear friend in the US Coast Guard Auxiliary. I had the pleasure of knowing and working with him in his later years. Mike was a true patriot and a valued member of the USCGA. 
Whenever I come across his photo, or his name in my contact list, I always think of him, and smile!
He left us way too soon, sad!

Mike was a fellow Coast Guard Auxiliarist and a valued member of Flotilla 091-20-19, Mt. Clemens, Michigan. Mike was always willing to pitch in and volunteer for any assignment big and small if it would help out the USCG Auxiliary in any way. He was a great role model, but even a better friend and person....a true patriot! 
Those of us in the USCGA think of Mike often....and smile!

anytime I needed him. My brother...................

Prior to Mike's heart transplant, I drove him out to Spectrum Hospital in Grand Rapids one day for his weekly check up. When we got in the car, Mike told me that we had to "make a few stops" before getting on the road.  We stopped at about four businesses where Mike collected money for the St. Clair Shores Coast Guard station. This was during the US Government shutdown and the Coast Guardsmen and women weren't getting their paychecks. Here Michael was, going to the hospital to have a check up on his heart, a very real "live or die" situation, and his main concern was for the Coast Guard members having enough money to feed their families during the shutdown! That was who Mike Mikla was!! As sad as this situation was, the family members, the viewing, the funeral, burial and the reception couldn't have been more memorable. Michael left us in the style that he was entitled to! I will never forget the priest at the cemetery singing Ave Maria in latin!! Rest in Peace my friend. Michael was my brother-in-law and I remember when I was in college and Michael and my sister were a young couple starting out in life.  Michael always placed so much importance on family and his relationships with others and he was always tuned in and sensitive to the circumstances of others.   When I would head back to school after a break or visit home, Michael would always offer me some spending money for school.  He was always too generous and I realize thinking back about it that he was a kid himself at that time, only a handful of years older!  He was kind and generous like that.  He loved to help people and went out of his way for others.  I would call my sister for one of his recipes and he would  get on the phone and enthusiastically describe EXACTLY what I needed to do, the ingredients  I needed and how to cook it to make it perfect!  I will miss Michael very much. His laugh, his love of family and people.  He was a good, kind and generous man.  Love you Michael.  


Mike was such a special friend to our family. He and Vince remodlng my house. A few years back. My late husband terry mentored mike in the coast guard  and they were so close like brothers. Mike and terry did a lot together like drinking buddy’s and making stuffed cabbage with my son David we are going to miss u a lot let god comfort u

My funny memory of me and Michael and my cousin Terry Robbins I'm we are upstairs at Uncle Bill's house Sterling Olive pits at each other until Uncle Bill came up and caught us they all ran out the door and I was the only one left boy did I not sit down for a week I sure miss them days forever Michael my cousin the same one that made meatballs like me in the sauce may you rest in peace and may God wrap his loving arms around you I love you❤️❤️

I remember growing up with The Mikla boys. Almost every weekend our parents got together and played pinochle and we hung out in the basement and had our own game of pinochle going. And drinking all the 7-up pop. Fun times. RIP Cousin.

My dear sweet cousin.   Heart of gold and always  so very thoughtful and generous.    Have missed your calls during this last year and now will miss you forever.    May you have a joyful reunion with all of our family who have gone before,

Cuz Michael was 9 years younger then me but we had a special  connection! We spent every holiday with our families together and blessed with our cousins as also great friends! When I got my house- he did many projects- always doing his best! I can’t even explain how I will miss him! Until we meet again cuz Michael!

I met Mike in 2002 at a CG Aux Flotilla Meeting when I was the Commanding Officer of St Clair Shores.  We hit it off.  He loved the CG Aux, we often spoke about the many things he had done in the Auxilary.  We stayed in touch after I left and when I retired and returned back to MI, he was one of the first folks that reached out to me.  I helped with his website and he attended several Division meetings.  It was always great to talk with him.  I know he struggled in the last few years, but he was always upbeat and loved life.  But most importantly, he loved his family and he loved being in the CG Aux.  He will be greatly missed.  Rest in peace dear friend!

Michael spent the entire day with me the day after my wife passed away. He was great friend and always there when I needed help doing anything . He will be greatly missed. 
 As a member of my crew in the coast Guard Auxiliary he was superior in  teaching others about boating safety.

I being Michaels eldest neice i would like to expand on our family myself and siblings and cousins as well as my step mother and all my aunts, then our multitudes of extended aunts, uncles and cousins will also miss him and pray he is now joined with open arms by  his parents and neice and nephew,  Bill & Rosemary and Pam and Bill III in heaven. I love you Uncle Mike and until I see you again, I am sending live and prayers. Fly high and watch out for us.
