Bob resided in the Dallas Metroplex area his entire life. He attended Crozier Tech High School where he was captain of the ROTC Corp and played guard for the basketball team. After Graduation in 1953 he enrolled at Tarleton State College before graduating from Texas A &M in 1956 with a degree in Electrical Engineering.
While attending college he continued service by enlisting in the Army National Guard, serving ten (10) years from 1953 before being Honorably Discharged in 1964.
Bob’s professional career began at Collins Radio working on power circuitry for the N.A.C.A before being recruited by Jack Kilby to join the Transistor Power Development group at Texas Instruments in Dallas, Texas. Bob’s team was responsible for developing the engineering and manufacturing process to place power circuity on silicon wafers. This new process of reducing the size of power source components also lead the team to develop the TI Desk Calculator and LED watch face.
Later in Bob’s career his electrical power experience led to work applications in the theater lighting industry and power supply units in the developing computer industry until his retirement from C and D Industries in 2001. In retirement Bob had a second career in which he enjoyed selling residential swimming pools. Additionally, he served on the Farmers Branch Planning and Zoning Commission from 2007 thru 2011.
Bob’s favorite hobby growing up was fishing. His father often took him to the Texas Gulf Coast, particularly San Luis Pass near Galveston, to fish with his uncles and cousins for sand trout, flounder, and sheepshead. Some of the memories he regularly spoke about were of course fishing and taking his grandchildren to the Disney Amusement Parks in California and Florida.
Bob leaves behind family and friends who enjoyed his easygoing nature which will be greatly missed.
In Celebration of Bob’s life a reception and lunch following today’s service will be hosted at the home of Robert & Lisa Baxter 3265 Golfing Green Drive in Farmers Branch.
