Jimmie Tanner, formerly of Clinton and Jackson, passed away Friday, February 28 at Montrose Bay Nursing Care in Fairhope, Alabama after a brief illness. She was 92 years old. She was born in Mt. Olive, Mississippi, and lived most of her life in Jackson and Clinton. She had moved to Live Oak Assisted Living Facility in Foley, Alabama two years ago to be closer to her family.
She retired from Belk (McRae’s) at Metro Center and was known as Ms. Jimmie by her friends and coworkers. She helped open the store in 1978, and helped close it in 2009. She worked over 31 years in the children’s department, where she won many professional sales awards. She attended Westview Baptist Church in Jackson until it closed. She then enjoyed watching First Baptist Church of Jackson on television every Sunday morning.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Edward Tanner; her parents, Anse and Winnie King; and her sisters, Polly Walker and Gertrude Roberts.
She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Duncan (Mike) of Gulf Shores, AL; her sister, Jane Callahan of Brandon, MS; her grandchildren, Chris Duncan (Somer) of Fairhope, AL and Dr. Kelli Duncan Gillman (Josh) of Fairhope, AL; and her three great grandchildren, Trace Duncan, Caleb Gillman and Annalise Gillman. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the loves of her life, and nothing pleased her more than talking about them and spending time with them.
