Annie Laurie Clemmons was born in New Orleans, LA on 10-30-1935. She spent her infant and early childhood years at a Catholic orphanage managed by The Sisters of Mercy. She was adopted by her parents, Addie J. and Myrle B. Clifton of Baton Rouge, LA in 1941. Annie Laurie was 6 years old. These loving parents raised Annie Laurie with doting love and gentility until her marriage Dr. Edward E. Clemmons in 1953. Annie Laurie then worked as a committed housewife and mother for 43 years. Eddy and Annie Laurie moved every year of early marriage. They lived in New Orleans, Monroe, and Harahan LA, later moving to Memphis, TN, and finally settling in Ft. Smith, AR. This fun couple had 7 children on the way of their journey. The couple moved to San Angelo, TX in 1982 with their youngest child, Coleman Clemmons, then 14.
Annie Laurie proudly worked assisting her husband in his medical practice in San Angelo, TX.
She enjoyed playing in tennis tournaments and going to horse races with Eddy. They loved raising their son and their frequent visits from daughters attending college. She abruptly lost her husband, Eddy 63, while living in San Angelo, TX in 1995. She continued living there for a couple of years until her children convinced her to move closer to some of them back in Ft. Smith, AR.
Later in her life, some of her Texas children encouraged her to spend 9 years with them in Salado, TX. Annie Laurie spent her final 7 years of life in Coppell, TX at River Oaks Assisted Living and Memory Care near one of her daughters. Her last, sweet moments were enjoyed and survived by her 7 children: Christy Sharum; Clifton E. Clemmons; Ward W. Clemmons; Alison Courtney; Kevinne Astudillo; Dionne Turner; and Coleman Clemmons. Annie Laurie, also known as “Anniemom”, was additionally survived by her sixteen grandchildren: Brooke Grosse; Elise Sharum; Clayton Sharum; Macey Rose; Jacob Clemmons; Shelby Turner; Kalie Clemmons; Landon Turner; Sebastian Clemmons; Logan Astudillo; Maverick Turner; Bailey Astudillo; Caroline Clemmons; Christian Clemmons; and Madeline Clemmons. The “Great Anniemom” leaves four great grandchildren to her long legacy of love: Naomi Clemmons 6; Indiana Sharum 5; Branson Sharum 3; and Vivian Rose 1.
Annie Laurie’s children, grandchildren, and friends describe her as witty, melodramatic, creative, and generous about everything in her life. “Everyone that meets her, loves her! She’s the most fun person ever” is the statement made most often by her devoted children and grandchildren! She will be greatly missed!
