Don graduated from Angelina College in the early 1990s with his Associate’s Degree in Nursing. He worked as a paramedic and for several hospitals, but he primarily worked for Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital. He retired as a nurse for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice in Jasper. Some of Don’s hobbies included building barbeque pits and wooden toys and riding dirt bikes. He attended Harmony Missionary Baptist Church with his wife, Peggy.
Mr. Petty was very particular, a perfectionist, and set in his ways. He worked to get the job done in a timely manner, often finding projects to keep busy. He loved the outdoors, Western movies, and the music of AC/DC and Queen. He even had “Another One Bites The Dust” as his ringtone. Don helped strangers when he could. If you needed something, he was there. He volunteered his time for Meals on Wheels and mowing the grass at his church. He loved his grandchildren, who knew him as “Papa”.
Mr. Petty was preceded in death by his parents; son, Pace Petty; and brother, Rusty Petty.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy Petty; daughter, Sherri Faires and husband Bubba; son, Jason Stiles; grandson, Casey Faires; and granddaughters, Shelby Faires, Amanda Faires, Addyson Stiles, and Ava Stiles.
