Jim graduated from Onapa high school. Following high school, he graduated from Oklahoma State, specializing in agriculture and mechanics. Jim served in the U.S. Army for 2 years, he then was given a position as a livestock market reporter for the Department of Agriculture for 35 years. While working in Baltimore, MD he met the love of his life, Dixianna. They were happily married on Friday, October 30, 1959 and were blessed by being together for 60 years. They had the privilege of living in Omaha, NB, Kansas City, and Indianapolis where they made many loving friendships. Jim and Dixianna retired in Tyler, Texas in 1989 to be closer to family. Jim enjoyed golfing with his friends and was a member of the Shiloh Church of Christ, and served as a deacon for 2 congregations. Jim will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Dixianna; 2 children, Marla (Lafe) Caton and David (Tina) Upton; 6 grandchildren, Cade (Ashton) Caton, Zach (Kimberly) Caton, Casey (Malkah) Caton, Casi Caton, Austin Upton, and Jace Upton; 7 great-grandchildren, Briley Caton, Brax Caton, Broc Caton, Brek and Brynne Caton, Remi Caton, Lochland Caton, Atlas Caton, and Edge Caton.
Jim was the youngest of ten children, who are all joined together now in Heaven.

A private military graveside service will occur on Tuesday, March 17, 2020, following a private memorial celebration for Jim's life on Tuesday, March 17, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Shiloh Church of Christ in Tyler, Texas. The family and church staff are politely asking to not attend the church service, due to health concerns that are now a national crisis.
