She was born May 21, 1944, in Laurel, Mississippi, a daughter of the late Curtis Aven Massey and Rachel Shows Massey.
Mrs. Bush retired from the Pearl Public School Systems after many dedicated years as a teaching assistant. She joined McLaurin Heights Baptist Church on October 10, 1965, and she attended services faithfully until her failing health prevented her from doing so. In her free time she enjoyed gardening, traveling, RV camping, and spending time with the circle of friends she and her husband connected with over the years. Perhaps her happiest moments were spent with her family, especially her beloved grandchildren.
Her heart for service to others was never more evident than in her volunteer work, and Mrs. Bush assisted with numerous activities designed to aid or benefit others. Among her favorites were the homebound ministry through McLaurin Heights Baptist, working “the Pearly Gates” for the Pearl Education Foundation, Band Boosters, and Pearl school athletics.
Survivors include her husband of 57 years, James W. Bush; son, Heath Bush and wife Melissa; daughters, Kellie Saulsbury and husband Mike, and Terri Houston and husband David; brother, Dr. Edwin Ray Massey and wife Jo Carol; grandchildren, Griffin Bush, Garrett Bush, Josh Saulsbury and wife Rachel, Darby Saulsbury, Allie Houston and Brennan Houston; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00pm, Sunday, December 6, 2020, at McLaurin Heights Baptist Church in Pearl. The family will receive friends following the service.
Mrs. Bush was laid to rest on Saturday, March 21, 2020, in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.
Memorials may be made to McLaurin Heights Baptist Church.
