Born in New Bedford, a son of the late Rodolphe "Rudy" and Margaret (Goguen) Gauvin, he lived most of his life in Fairhaven. He was a 50 + year communicant of St. Mary's Church, Fairhaven.
Mr. Gauvin served in the United States Marines. He later worked as a truck driver and retired from United Liquors, a lifelong Teamster.
Bob was a 40+ year member of the Fairhaven Livesey Club and was also a long-time member of the American Legion. He enjoyed staying active, golfing, and working out in his weight room. He would challenge anyone to a battle of one-handed push-ups and was one of the few people who could perform multiple extended straight arm push-ups. Mr. Gauvin always supported his son and grandchildren during their athletic and academic endeavors. He was a volunteer timing system operator at Bishop Stang High School swim meets for over a decade. He was a long-time coach for youth and high school hockey teams and officiated youth, high school, and collegiate hockey games.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Robert Gauvin and his wife Kara of Mattapoisett; five grandchildren, Zachary and his wife Anna of Connecticut, Julie and her husband Matthew of California, Luke of Colorado, Andrea and her husband Paul of North Carolina, and Meredith of Northampton; one great-grandchild, Odette of Los Angeles, a special niece and nephew who helped with Bob and Del's care and support, Sara and her husband Rob of Rhode Island, and Donnie of Florida; a brother, Roger Gauvin of New Bedford; a sister, Bernice Power, and her husband Bill of Fairhaven, a brother-in-law, Bishop. A. "Butch" Silva of Canada, a sister-in-law Nora Marginson of New Bedford; and many treasured nieces, nephews and neighbors.
Due to current restrictions on public gatherings, a Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary's Parish, Fairhaven, at a later date, and visiting hours will not be held.
