Born January 9, 1933 on a farm in Weber County, UT, Helen was the youngest of seven children. She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Garry; her sister, LeeOma Nielson; her two sons, Andrew and Brent; as well as five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She graduated high school as valedictorian and went on to earn her B.A. from Brigham Young University in Home Economics, her M.S. in Family Economics from Oregon State University, and her Ph.D. in Research and Statistics from the University of Northern Colorado.
She thrived as a career woman working as a school teacher and with university extension services in her early years. Later she served her community as a university faculty member, and in various leadership roles with the State of Wyoming. She retired from the Wyoming State Community College Commission in 1997.
Helen lived every ounce out of life. She rode horses and motorcycles, drove hot-rods way too fast, and spent years traveling the world. Helen never missed a grandchild’s graduation or wedding. She also served diligently as missionary, teacher, and leader for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout her life.
A small family memorial service will be held Tuesday March 24, 2020.
A public graveside service will follow at 12:30pm at the Johnstown cemetery. The family encourages friends and relatives to leave their memories of Helen at the online guestbook, www.allnuttloveland.com.
