Myrl Haynes Hoover, 80, passed away on March 19, 2020 in Dallas, Texas. He was born on August 14, 1939 in Dallas, Texas to JB and Artie Mae Hoover. Myrl was raised in Dallas, Texas and graduated from South Oak Cliff High School and El Centro College. He married Carole Probst in 1994. He was an optician at Essilor Optical where he worked for many years.
Myrl was most proud of his children. He beamed with pride about how they all grew up and became extraordinary adults and parents of his grandchildren. When Myrl met Carole, they fell in love instantly. Carole's family also became his family, which included yearly reunions where they drove their travel trailer to stay a week each time.
In his younger years, he spent his free time at rodeos and team penning. He was best known for wearing his giant-sized belt buckle. He also enjoyed bowling and hunting.
Later in his years, Myrl enjoyed spending time at his Lake Tawakoni home either boating, catfish fishing, cooking, or just speeding around the park in his shiny red golf cart. He was simply content visiting neighbors and just shooting the breeze. He particularly looked forward to Thanksgiving each year when his family and friends would gather together and share home cooked meals. He also had a love/hate relationship with the Dallas Cowboys as all Sunday meals and outdoor cooking were planned around their schedule. His retirement years were very good to him.
Myrl was known to be accident prone and after he lost a couple of fingers in one of these accidents, he spent the years that followed tricking any kid under the age of ten, that his fingers just went missing. A variation of this game was to have them pull his finger. Most would fall for the trick and join in on helping him look all around for his missing finger. He loved making kids laugh. To so many he was just Myrl, Dad, Uncle Myrl or Pappy.
He will always be remembered by them as the kind, funny and caring man that he was.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Artie Mae Hoover and JB Hoover; sisters, Wilma (Billie) Parks and Betty Wyatt and grandson, Jack Henvey.
Myrl is survived by his loving wife, Carole Ann Hoover; son, Terry Hoover and wife, Karen; son, Jeff Hoover and wife, Desiree; daughter, Renee Henvey and husband, Chris; stepdaughter, Teresa Presley and husband, Tommy; stepson, Brian Probst and wife, Wendy; brother, Phillip Hoover and wife, Betty; 10 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
