It is with profound sadness that the family announces the passing of Melvin James Joseph (Lug-Sug) at age of 54, at home in Naotkamegwanning First Nation after a courageous battle with cancer, with his beloved family by his side. He is survived by his mother Mary Helen Joseph, and son Aldo Lowe. Brothers Patrick, Darren (Julie) ,Tam (Lena), Roman (Linda) and sisters, twin sister Rosemarie, Elaine, and Tanya; Nephews Curtis, William, Damien, Charles, Pierston, Riley, Brendon, Dylan; Nieces Ginnette, Janine, Tara, and Jaryn. He held a special place in his heart for foster niece and nephew Brooke and Melvin Muckle. Their special name for Melvin was money. There is also many great nieces and nephews too numerous to mention, as well as numerous cousins.
He is Predeceased by Grandparents Mae (Skead) and Charles (Charlie) Joseph, Great uncles Clifford, Arthur, Bill, Alex and great aunt Cecilia; uncles Harry, Fred, Francis Aunties Mary, Margaret, Rose, Catherine Cousins Joe, Mary Jane, and Russell Tom, Sheila, Francis Charles, Frank, Lawrence Joseph, Joseph, Diane, and Marlene Nash, Chris Knight.
Melvin enjoyed fishing, spending time with family, fish fry’s, BBQs, boating, exploring, taking family on lake, ice fishing, playing cribbage, hanging out and joking around with his family and best friends Ellis Cowley, Walter Cowley, Warren White, Robert Dawson and Mark White. He took pride and kept his yardv in very immaculate condition for his family and was one of the best scenic areas of Naotkamegwanning.
During his life he worked as a fishing Guide, construction worker, janitor, crisis worker, security at school. Melvin graduated from Fort Frances High School in mid-1980’s.
The Family would like to send a special thank-you to Debbie Meekis, Clark White, Maxine Crow, and Kathleen, staff at Mino’giizhiged Elders Center in Whitefish Bay, family members who took turns looking after him and his needs.
Wake will be held at the Baybombay Anishinabe School March 23, 2020 and starting at 11:00 am and funeral services will start on March 24, 2020 starting around 10:00 am, burial to follow at the Joseph family cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society and the Kenora Fellowship centre.
