Rex Arthur Joseph Buckland passed away March 22, 2020 at the age of 79. He is survived by his partner Peg Campanelli, his son Andrew, his daughter Amy (Megan), his grandson Max, his sisters Dawn (Wally) and Joy, his nieces and nephews Kent (Liz), Kelly (James), and Shane, and the mother of his children Susan Hanson. He will be missed by the Laramie Birkett Campanelli family.
Born to Rexford Buckland and Gladys Peters in Montreal, he would always claim to have been born in Lachine (and remind us of when he used to be able to canoe from 45th to 55th Avenues which, well...). He had a lifelong passion for car racing, hockey, and dogs, and in his youth loved to sing in the church choir.
A long-time employee of the Montreal Star (which folded on his 39th birthday!), and then the Montreal Gazette, Rex worked in a number of departments before retiring as Assistant to the Publisher in 1996.
Since then he spent his time curling at the Lachine Curling Club, golfing, and volunteering with Meals on Wheels. Rex was a very active member and long term supporter of his Lodge in Freemasonry, Royal Albert Edinburgh Lodge #25, Grand Lodge of Quebec. He was a member of the Anglican Church of All Saints by the Lake, Dorval, QC.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. During this time the family strongly encourages donations to your local food bank or hospital foundation. Recently Rex had taken to saying goodbye with "I love you more" - so let's all take care of each other a little more.
