Jerry Slaughter Kinton Sr., age 79, a resident of Kernersville died Monday, March 23, 2020 at Novant Health Kernersville Medical Center. He was born on July 11, 1940, son of the late Bob Samuel Kinton and Bertha Slaughter Kinton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Otis Charles Kinton, a sister, Annette Kinton Parchman, and a brother, Melvin Bob Kinton.
Jerry was a man of faith. He accepted Jesus Christ as His Lord and Savior at age 11. He enjoyed listening to the radio broadcast, "Thru the Bible," with J. Vernon McGee. His favorite music was southern gospel. He was an active church member of New Journey Fellowship. He and his wife, Barbara, hosted their weekly men’s Bible study. Jerry also loved to travel. As a profession, he was a long distance truck driver for Pilot Freight Carriers for over 20 years, which took him all over the country. Personally, he loved visiting National Parks especially Yellowstone and Glacier National. He also really enjoyed his fishing trips to Cape Hatteras back when the Outerbanks hardly had any roads. He was a big nature lover and enjoyed bird watching. He really loved gardening and had a green thumb especially with his prized tomatoes. Jerry was a faithful husband and a loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was a very generous man. If his family needed anything, he would put their needs above his. He was known and loved for his good sense of humor and deep faith and biblical convictions. He knew he was a saved sinner loved by God and his love for Jesus impacted everyone around him.
