Jean began her career as a teacher where she earned the love and respect of many students. She came back to Digby to pursue a career in the family business of real estate and insurance. She went on to become a board member on the first Board of Governors for NSCC, an instructor, coordinator and director of several adult school programs throughout her life. At the time of her passing, she was the Deputy Mayor of Digby and active until the week of her death. Jean was involved in many areas of the Baptist Church; she was part of an ensemble group that did music ministry, also served as choir director for many years. As Jean began her journey with cancer she found a love for painting and became quite well known for her paintings of poppies. What she will be remembered for most is her wisdom, mentorship, loyalty and love of her Lord. She had the love and respect of all ages and the ability to mentor a diverse section of her community.
Jean is survived by brother, John Albert (Marilyn) Brittain, special Aunt Elizabeth Smith, long time friend and caregiver Terry Gilbert and family, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her parents she was predeceased by her brother Hugh and sister Anne.
A special thank you to Dr. John Black, staff at the cancer centers in Halifax and Yarmouth as well as everyone who has made her journey to the end of her life a peaceful and joyful trip.
