Mary Jane Williams Haygood, age 82, of Richmond, TX went to her eternal rest in Our Lord on April 23, 2020. She was born in St. Louis, Missouri on November 8, 1937 to Dillard and Grace Williams. Jane was laid to rest with a beautiful, Christian committal service on April 25, 2020 at Morton Cemetery in Richmond, TX. A joy-filled Memorial Mass will be offered in thanksgiving and celebration of her life with all her family and friends when churches reopen in the near future.
Jane was wonderfully devoted to her children Michael Newcomb, Kevin Newcomb, Mark Newcomb, Kelly Newcomb, Chris Newcomb, Andrea Newcomb Barta and son-in-law, David Barta, and Heather Haygood Grilliot and son-in-law, Harry Grilliot.
She was an aunt and godmother to lovely nieces, Theresa and Janie; and a loving and supportive grandmother, called “Grandma Jane” by the older grandchildren which affectionately turned into “Meme” by the younger grandkids: Angie, Trish, Samantha, Ronnie, Brian, Michaela, Michael, Isaac, Logan, Jonah, and Miles. And, Jane has many, many great-grandchildren.
Our mother was a true mother to so many rearing her own 7 children along with running a registered daycare in her home for 19 years, caring for nearly 100 children in that time span from newborns to Kindergarteners, including special-needs children, while also volunteering tirelessly in church ministries.
Mom was a devout Roman Catholic her entire life, parishioner at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Sugar Land, TX and member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas - St. Theresa of Lisieux Court 2211. Her beloved sisters in Christ at Catholic Daughters were the “sisters” she had always wanted since she was small child. Jane was deeply ardent about sharing her love and faith in Jesus Christ. Our Blessed Mother Mary was her close companion throughout life, too. You could count on Jane to pray for you at any time, something that she did even when she did not have the physical strength to do much else. She led many people to Christ and walked with them in their journey into baptism and the Church through the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults program where she volunteered for many years.
She embodied tremendous talents for gardening, cooking, baking, sewing, creating beauty through arts and crafts of every kind including stained-glass, caring for animals, world travels, decorating, celebrating her family in every way and always keeping an immaculate, lovely home and yard - and she enjoyed watching her beloved Texans football team.
Jane is preceded in death by her father Dillard Williams and mother Grace Williams; brother David Williams; her sons Michael, Mark, Kelly and Chris Newcomb; grandson Brian Newcomb; and daughter-in-law Teresa Newcomb.
Mom remained strong in her faith in The Lord and resilient to the end. She has left many wonderful, happy, loving memories with countless friends, neighbors and church members throughout her life. We will all miss her every day and fully trust in the promise of new life in Our Divine and Merciful Lord Jesus.
The family sincerely appreciates and thanks all of the dedicated, kind and courageous doctors, nurses, caregivers and hospice who compassionately cared for our mother for these past months and years. Mom was a brilliant light of enduring faith and love to them, as well.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests charitable donations to the Divine Mercy Retreat Center & Family Camp. Our beloved mother, Jane, was instrumental with her constant prayers and support in helping this holy place come to fruition for all God’s people to know, love and serve Him more deeply: www.DivineMercyRetreatCenter.org/donate
