Edward Jershin, age 92, of Omaha went to be with his Lord on Thursday, May 7, 2020. Ed is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mary Jershin, sister Amelia, brothers Frank (Caroline) and James (Thelma) Jershin of Omaha.
Edward is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Lowene (Rothe) Jershin; daughter Jill (Alan) Butler of Elkhorn NE, and son Jay (Alison) Jershin of Allen, TX. Grandchildren Craig (Hilary) Butler of Wahoo, Cole Butler of Columbus, OH, Lauren and Jacob Jershin of Allen, TX.
Ed was baptized and confirmed in Saint Joseph’s Catholic church in Omaha. He attended South High School in Omaha before serving in the U.S. Army during World War II and U.S. Air Force Reserves during the Korean War. He worked as Machinist at Union Pacific for 10 years. He retired in 1989 from Western Electric/AT&T where he worked for 32 years as an Inspector and as a Machinist.
Ed and Lowene were married in Omaha at Bethany Lutheran church on September 1, 1956. He converted to the Lutheran faith shortly after. Together they danced, played cards, golfed, spent time at the American Legion and made many great memories with family and friends. They lived in Arizona for 16 years for the love of year-round golf, before returning to Omaha in 2011.
Ed will be greatly missed by his children and grandchildren. He was an excellent role-model for love, family-values, and loyalty. A Celebration of Life service is at 10am, Sept. 18 at Lutheran Church of the Master, 1200 N 181st Ct, Elkhorn, NE. Memorials can be directed to the Church.
