Ruby Marie Arends, 83, went home to be with Jesus on Mother's Day, Sunday, May 10th, 2020. Ruby was born in Missoula, Montana to Joseph and Gertrude “Ellen”. Ruby moved to Ogilvie, Minnesota, at the age of 15. After graduating from Ogilvie High School, she met and fell in love with Charles “Chuck” Arends. When a friend dared them to get married, they eloped in 1954. They moved to Coon Rapids and raised their four children. Ruby and Chuck were members of Presbyterian Church of the Master, and she worked part-time in the Eisenhower Elementary School cafeteria. Ruby enjoyed camping, traveling the western states, and visiting with relatives.
Ruby will be remembered as a feisty lady who was quick to give her opinion whether you wanted it or not. She loved playing board games. She was competitive and always wanted to win! She also did beautiful needlepoint. Ruby never met a stranger and would talk to anyone she came in contact with. She enjoyed researching her family's genealogy and spent much of her time looking at county and state records, sending letters to distant relatives, and searching old cemeteries for long lost loved ones. Ruby's family was her pride and joy. At family gatherings she always had an opinion about who should sit where and is famous for wanting just "one more picture" to the groans of everyone present.
Ruby met her Savior Jesus Christ in the 1970s and it changed her completely. We are comforted that she is with Him in heaven.
Ruby was preceded in death by her beloved husband of almost 60 years; her parents; five siblings; and grandsons, Jeffrey Tyrone Adams and Jackson Tyrone Arends.
She is survived by her children, Larry (Barb) Arends, Kevin (Diane) Arends, David (Bette) Arends, and Kristle (Matthew) Quinn; sixteen grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many other loved ones.
A special thank you to the wonderful staff at The Gardens at Foley in Foley, Minnesota for their loving care of Ruby for the last seven years.
"Well done my good and faithful servant." Matthew 25:21.
A private interment was held May 16th at Morningside Memorial Gardens in Coon Rapids.
A memorial service is being planned for June. Please contact the family or Gearhart Funeral Home for more information.
