Johanna Monaco passed away on May 11, 2020 at the age of 88. She was born on May 4, 1932 in New York City to Italian immigrant parents, Carlo and Rosina Baiardi. She grew up there with her sister, Santina. In 1956, she married Louis Monaco, a New York City Police Detective and husband of 63 years until his passing in 2019. Together, Johanna and Lou raised two daughters, Joanne and Christine.
Johanna was employed for 20 years as a sales associate at Saks Fifth Avenue department store in Garden City, NY but Johanna’s true pride and joy was her family. She devoted much of her life to their care and well-being, and in doing so, she always kept herself busy, often in attempt to “lighten the load” for her children and grandchildren. She was humble, kind and a good listener. She valued education and the church, and worked to instill those values in her daughters and grandchildren. She always showed great pride in their accomplishments. It was clear to all who knew her how important her family was in her life. She was just as important to us, and her memory will always live on in our hearts.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Johanna's memory to Alzheimer's Association.
