Ina Lois Howrey was born in Pueblo, CO, on October 12, 1934. She was the youngest child born to Glen and Era Howrey. Her sister Glenna was five years old when she was born. Glen was a painter for the CF& I plant in Pueblo. His job took them to Crested Butte in the summer one year.
Her mother was a department manager for Joslin’s department store. We think that is where she found her love for shopping. Her mother came to Colorado from Texas in a covered wagon when she was a child. She has some storied history in her family tree.
When she was just 15 years old, she caught the eye and won the heart of the local high school basketball and football star and heart throb Jim “Posey” Pobst. They secretly were married and later revealed their betrothal as Jim was drafted and headed to Brownsville, TX, for the Army. After his stint in Texas they returned to Pueblo where they started a family.
Ina gave birth to twin girls, Rhonda and Donna. The twins were born premature and without the medical technology that we have today they only lived eight hours. Jim and Ina did have three healthy daughters.
Ina was an animal lover with her two childhood dogs Spy and Poochy. Her love continued with family pets Max & Puff and later Tara. She loved her furry kids almost as much as her non furry kids. Well, actually we would say more, as she would ask Max and Puff what they wanted for dinner on a regular basis. Good thing she made enough for the other kids.
In the 70’s and 80’s she worked as a department manager at Joslin’s department store in the Cinderella City Mall. She had a passion for Liz Claiborne clothes and Aigner shoes. She was jokingly called Liz.
As she retired, Jim got the bug to move to Tucson where they had frequently vacationed and where the family lived for 15 months back in the 70’s. Jim would convince her that the Mexican food she loved was better there and they could afford a nice retirement. She would get homesick for her kids and Colorado, so they would move back. He would work on her and convince her to go again. This happened several times. He finally learned he couldn’t take her away from family and home. They lived with daughter Lois several times when they returned home, Lois was afraid they would never leave the nest.
After residing in Littleton and Highlands Ranch, they lived briefly in Canon City and then Colorado Springs where Jim passed away in 2011. Jim and Ina were married for 62 years.
Ina wanted to move closer to daughters Lois, Lynda and son in law Bill, so she moved to Castle Rock in 2012. She lived with Lois for eight months. She claimed to be “nanny” to Lois’s two dogs Jake and Mario and cats Torey and Casey. She really was the reason that Jake and Mario had to go on diets once Nanny moved out.
She thrived and found herself while living with Lois. She moved to a new senior living facility in Castle Rock where she enjoyed making friends, going to her favorite Mexican restaurant and shopping.
In 2017 she needed more assistance with daily living, so she moved to Greenwood Village and lived at Caley Ridge until she passed.
Ina had a deep faith in Christ, after becoming a follower and dedicated Christian 51 years ago. She loved Jesus and said she was “Jesus’ girl”. She is dancing with the angels around the throne in Heaven with family, friends and all the fur babies.
