She was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Florence Brooks. Her passage from time to eternity came on Tuesday May 12, 2020, after a long but valiant fight with old age infirmities.
As a child, Iris attended Red Bank Primary School and after completing her elementary education she went on to be trained as a dressmaker; a profession she kept until she migrated to the United States of America in April 1968. Iris leaving her young family in Jamaica did not hesitate to settle down in the State of New York and quickly became a certified Nurse's Aide. After completing more than two decades in Health and Hospital Services, Iris retired and returned to her homeland Jamaica in 1996. In Jamaica she re-established deep friendships with friends and family and molded herself into the spiritual diamond that she was to become.
In 2017 Iris returned to the United States and resided in the State of Florida under the care of her son Reuben, daughter Idona, nephew Douglas and long-time family friend and neighbor Mrs. Verona Thomas. Iris was affectionately known to her children and grandchildren as 'Mom’, 'Irie’ and 'Grandma’ and to her community as “Mother Jacobs” and “Miss Iris.” She lived her life in full confidence of the Gospel’s saving power, for she was made the recipient of that power and unashamedly spoke of it to many and her own family. Iris spent much time in personal and intercessory prayer, deriving strength to continue when continuation seemed impossible. Iris was not intimidated by hard work. She constantly reminded her family and friends that nothing comes easy. She had an endless supply of love, warm and gentle affection for everyone, especially her family.
Iris was a wonderful wife, caring mother, protective grandmother, and a loving great grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband Walter Jacobs in 1986, daughter Janet Jacobs in 2001 and her first grandchild Arlene N. Jacobs in 2016. Family and Relationship with God were the focus of Iris Jacobs’ life. Surely, Iris will be missed and so will the physical presence of this gentle and compassionate woman; but her spirit and legacy will remain alive with us as a lasting memory in her honor.
She leaves to cherish her fond memories (sons) Rev. A. Roy, Lloyd, Reuben and Osbourne; (daughters) Idona and Ann; (grandsons) Orrett, Richard, Paul and Michael; (granddaughters) Denise and Angela; (great grands) Dylan, Delaney, Denver, Noelle, Sierra and Sonya; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
MAY HER SOUL REST IN PEACE.
