Hospital. He was the husband of Dolores E. (Silva) Maguire to whom he shared 72 wonderful years of
marriage.
Born in New Bedford, the son of Bessie (Elizabeth) Maguire, he was a lifelong resident of New Bedford.
William honorably served his country in the United States Navy during WWII, where he was awarded the
WWII Victory Medal, American Theater Medal and the Asiatic-Pacific Medal- 2 stars. He later was
employed for 35 years at JC Rhodes as a nickel and metal plater until his retirement in 1985.
William had many names, including Mr. Maguire, Bill, Mickey, Dad and Grandpa. He would answer to all
of them, especially when he was called to the dinner table. He always loved a good meal. He truly
enjoyed being surrounded by his family and friends whether it was a simple Sunday dinner, a cookout or
Holiday gathering. He was the father that was always willing to lend a helping hand. He especially loved
watching his grandchildren partake in their activities. Up until a few years ago, he could be found sitting
on the bleachers rooting for all of the Voc-Tech Bears sports teams.
In addition to the love of his life, his wife Dolores; he is survived by his children, Linda Taber and her
husband George of Zephyrhills, FL, Dennis Maguire and Craig Maguire both of New Bedford and Paul
Maguire and his wife Robin of Acushnet; nine grandchildren, Kimberly Burnell, Michael Taber, Jenna
Tieu, Erin, Ross, Sean, Kyle, Derrick and Kellsie Maguire. He was also blessed with ten
great-grandchildren. He was the father of the late David B. Maguire and grandfather of the late Brian D.
Maguire.
