Harold Francis Granger passed away peacefully in the evening of May 13, 2020 at the Grand Rehabilitation Home in Whitestone, NY. He had battled with various ailments over the past 4 1/2 years after a terrible fall that changed his way of living. Harry however, was not ready to leave his family, and in true fashion battled back to health countless times. Even in his final days, he expressed his gratitude to his care takers and nurses, in true Harry fashion.
Born in the Bronx on July 11, 1933, to Beatrice and Harold Granger, Harry was known to those who loved him as a hard working, loyal, and charismatic man. After earning his diploma from Mount St Michael high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy. Married to his bride, Margaret Granger (deceased 2018), he then worked as a stationary engineer for the New York City Court system. Harry’s busiest years were spent serving as the Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, Olympia Council, which led to his appointment to State Deputy. He served as the Executive Secretary for the New York State Council, while juggling driving limousines in the evenings to support his family the way in which he wanted. Harry thoroughly enjoyed golf and crossword puzzles both before and after his retirement in 2006.
Harry is preceded in death by his parents, sister Beatrice, and wife Margaret. He is survived by his sister Ann Marie (Donald), his three children Cathy (Robert), Kevin (Kristine), and James (Miosottis), and his three grandchildren Emilia, Jack, and Blake. The love Harry felt and expressed to his family, his “babies,” was unlike any other, paired with unwavering positivity and joy. His infectious smile can never be forgotten as he finally rests in peace.
A memorial will be held on a future date.
