Jan was born and raised in Salt Lake City, the second of two daughters to Gerald and Mae McIlrath. She graduated South High School in 1952, and not long after met her future husband, Marc Martin Sr., on a blind date. They married in 1953, and remained married for 66 years until her death.
Soon after getting married, they relocated to the Seattle area, living mostly in what is now known as Newcastle. There they raised a son (Marc Jr.) and daughter (Diane). After her kids had mostly grown up, she got a job at Boeing where her husband already worked. She worked there as an office administrator for over 15 years, retiring in 1995.
She was known for her sense of humor, being good-natured, and dedication to family. She enjoyed swimming, reading, listening to music, sewing, and vacationing in Hawaii.
Preceding her in death are her parents Gerald and Mae McIlrath and also her sister Dorothy McIlrath. She is survived by and lovingly remembered by her husband Marc Martin Sr., daughter Diane Martin, son Marc Martin Jr., and daughter-in-law Tracy Weber. She will be laid to rest at Sunset Hills Memorial Park in Bellevue. No services are currently planned.
The family would like to thank the memory care staff at the Briarwood Health Center in Issaquah for taking such good care of Jan in her final years.
