Leora V. Schramm, 90, passed away peacefully at her home in Phoenix, AZ on May 18, 2020. Visitation will be May 26th at Phoenix Memorial Park and Mortuary, attended by immediate family only. Burial will follow at 9:00 AM, May 26th at Phoenix Memorial Park and Mortuary. Friends and family are welcome to attend. Pastor Mike Sheldon, officiating.
Surviving are her children Tim and 'Tami' Bemrich, Twyla and 'Allen' McElderry, Tom Bemrich, and Tami and 'Marc' Weisenberger; step-children Sandy and 'Cindy' Schramm, and Keith Schramm; grandchildren Tara Bemrich Parker; Troy, Tifany, and Tracy Bemrich; A.J., Conner, Ryley, and Jessie McElderry; Jeff, Steven, and Mitchell Bemrich; Christopher, Chase, and Colby Weisenberger; Monica 'Mo' and Lisa Schramm; 20 great-grandchildren; and sister-in-laws Mary Kay Carlson and Inez Eimers.
She was preceded in death by her parents E.W. and Elsena (Abens) Janssen; husband Walt Schramm; sisters Caroline Campbell, Eleanor Zeigler, and Vergie Tinken; infant granddaughter Shay McElderry; and step-son Roger Schramm.
Leora Verniel Janssen was born July 11, 1929 on the family farm outside Palmer, IA, Lizard Township, in Pocahontas County. She grew up on a farm near Pioneer, IA. She attended school in Pioneer and Fort Dodge, IA, graduating from Pioneer in 1946. Leora married her childhood sweetheart, Virgil Bemrich, at the Corpus Christi Rectory, Fort Dodge in 1948, with whom she had four children — Tim, Twyla, Tom, and Tami. They later divorced. Lee later found love with Walt Schramm, and they were married in South Sioux City, SD in May of 1971. They were married for 41 years. Lee and Walt moved to Phoenix, AZ in 1972, where she worked for Motorola Inc. for 20 years. After retiring from Motorola, Lee worked for the Paradise Valley School System as a cook and a crossing guard. Lee enjoyed a very active lifestyle. She loved to bowl, swim, golf, travel, and play cards, and she enjoyed family gatherings. She was a lifelong affiliate member of the V.F.W. and an active member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, Phoenix, AZ.
