Glendon L. Cardwell, age 82, was called by his Lord on May 19, 2020, to his presence and into the arms of family preceding him, including his beloved parents, Ray and Lillian Cardwell, sisters Charlotte Cardwell Hunt and Beverly Nykwest, and infant brother Lincoln, his uncle and aunt Omer and Ruth Cardwell, his aunt Rhuie Flener, nephew Michael Hunt and others of his family who prepared the way for him. He leaves behind those he loved dearly to continue his hope that all will come to know the love of our Lord, including his wife of nearly 63 years, Bonnie Lowery Cardwell of Jupiter, his children, Terry Lane Cardwell (Steven Toomey) and Tracy Cardwell Casaceli (Guy) of Jupiter, and Jeffrey Glen Cardwell, MD, (Phillis) of Charlotte, NC. His seven grandchildren, who will miss his encouragement and attention throughout their lives especially at graduations, sporting events and holiday family get togethers, include Christina, Guy, and Glendon Casaceli, and Christopher, Gabriella, Chancellor, and Ava Cardwell. His remaining brothers, whom he loved dearly, and always hoped to see one more time, include Ronnie (Norma), Allen (Joy Wyatt), Dwight, and Kenny (Kaye) Cardwell of Kentucky plus his many nieces and nephews.
Glendon graduated from the University of Louisville with a bachelor’s degree in accounting and received his MBA from the University of Miami where he worked for over 30 years in administration, finance and budgeting. He worked for Tube Turns and American Air Filter in Louisville, KY, and the University of Kentucky in Lexington prior to that. His university work led to a passion for the sports of both schools, forever a member of Big Blue Nation and a Cane.
His love of travel, fostered by his father and passed on to his children and grandchildren, took him to all continents of the globe, many countries, and every state. His last trip planned to the Holy Land was cancelled by Covid-19 in March but will finally be furnished by the best tour guide of all. His charitable work in every community he lived, in Louisville and Lexington, KY, and Miami and Jupiter, FL, touched lives that he never knew, but loved, nonetheless. His many works included his tireless efforts and financial support for his local churches, the Wesley Home and Foundation in Miami, local food banks, Epworth Village in Miami, Habitat for Humanity, Linda Ray Center, and most recently, CROS Ministries and The Lord’s Place in Palm Beach County. His skills in accounting were recognized with awards from the University of Kentucky, the University of Miami, and the City of Miami. He also received the title of a “Kentucky Colonel” by the state of Kentucky and was a “Son of the American Revolution”.
Viewing will be at Aycock-Riverside Funeral and Cremation Center in Jupiter, Florida from 10 am-noon on Monday, May 25, with a graveside service at Riverside Cemetery to follow. A Celebration of Life will be planned in the future when all can share the joys of his life together. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be given to CROS Ministries or The Lord’s Place in Palm Beach County.
