Robert was born in Florence, AL and graduated from Coffee High School Class of 1956. Always learning, he studied at the University of Maryland while in the military and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree from Central State University.
SMSgt Jackson retired from the United States Air Force in 1982 after proudly serving this great country for 24 years. He served the state of Oklahoma for 17 years, working at the Oklahoma Tax Commission, and retiring in 2002. He was a programmer when computers were room sized and was amazed at the access to knowledge he had in his smart phone.
He was not a big talker as a younger man, but emerged from his shell after retirement. Conservative in thought, but generous in deed. Raised in the church, he was a child of God and was ready when he was called home. He loved his church family and would not want us to be sad.
When the urge for a good hotdog struck, he would drive two days back to his hometown of Florence, AL for the “best dog ever” at Trowbridge’s Ice Cream Bar. If BBQ was calling him, Memphis was in his sights. He loved Branson, enjoyed warm weather, puzzles, and learning new languages. His taste in music was varied: Statler Bros, Elvis, German polka, traditional Japanese and country western.
Robert is survived by his loving wife, Toy; daughters, Tina Wharton and her husband Jeff, Carol Lester, and Tomoko Myers and her husband Roger; sons, Lewis Jackson and his wife Kelly, and Larry Jackson; grandchildren, Samantha, Madelyn, Paige, Travis, Tyler, Sean, Kristopher, Matthew, Jake, Emily and Lauren; and his only brother, Don Jackson and his wife Doris.
Robert was preceded in death by his father, Louis T. Jackson and mother, Frances (Arnold) Jackson.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to Sunnylane Family Church.
