James L. Bellanca was born on July 7, 1962 to Louis and Doris Bellanca at St. Jude Hospital in Fullerton CA. His last days were spent in his sister’s home on hospice. Jim peacefully passed in the evening on Saturday, May 23, 2020. Earlier that day, he heard a joyous, celebratory parade made by many of his friends and flanked by Fountain Valley Police Department’s finest. Each of his friends came to his bedside to say hello and Jim recognized each person and conversed as much as he could. Jim received his going away party even though he didn’t get a chance to plan it.
Jamey, as he was known as a child, always had a passion to help keep neighbors and friends safe from any kind of harm. So, as a 9-year-old and “Chief” of his Unofficial Jr. Police Force, Jamey patrolled the streets of Buena Park on his bicycle looking to report crimes and keep his streets safe. The Buena Park News captured a photo of Jamey, complete with (candy) cigar, badge, and holster instructing his Police Force in September, 1971. His passion led the city to establish a Community Watch Program and the Mayor wrote Jamey a letter of thanks in December 1977. Soon, Jamey became involved with the City’s Youth Commission Program and became Chairman of this group.
Jamey also participated in the Boy Scouts of America and earned the highest rank of Eagle Scout. James attended Savanna High School and successfully graduated with his class of 1980. He went on to join the Police Explorer Post 474 of Buena Park Police Department where he was ultimately promoted to the rank of Captain. During his time with the Police Explorers, Jim completed several Law Enforcement Instruction Programs and Emergency Preparedness Programs. In 1984, Jim, was accepted into the National Exchange Club and was an active member of the Buena Park Chapter.
Jim created and began his business in teaching classes on First Aid, CPR, Earthquake Preparedness, Blood Born Pathogens, AED training and more. He taught classes all up and down the state of California recertifying nurses, doctors, EMTs, dentists, teachers, and state employees. Jim was in business for more than 30 years and was highly respected in his field.
Jim was in service of others in one way or another for his entire life. And that continued when his parents were aging and needing assistance. Jim ushered several senior citizens to the hospice program when they could no longer care for themselves or their loved ones. He, himself stayed by his Father’s side for years caring for his every need before he passed on. He also cared for his Aunt Stella who was very dear to all who knew her. His kindness and generosity were poured out to so many in his service to them.
Jim was dearly loved by his siblings: Marty, Kathi, and John. He was a gracious, giving Uncle to Brian, Sara, Brandon and Jessica. His great nephew, Roman, loved his Uncle Jimbo and told Jim that he looks forward to playing pranks with him in heaven. Jim will be greatly missed by all who knew him! Rest in Peace dear brother.
