Robert Remi DeSchepper, also known to his grandchildren as “Papa the Great” passed away peacefully at home on May 30, 2020. Bob was born June 14, 1942. He is preceded in death by his parents, Regina and Charles DeSchepper and a brother, Auggie. Bob leaves behind his wife of 52 years, Sandy (Gulick) DeSchepper and a brother, Ed. He also leaves behind 5 children, Bryan (Jennifer) and Kerri (Greg Robel) and as dad liked to call the next 3, "the second litter", Micah (Meredith), John (Rosemary) and Tim (Rachel). He also leaves behind, 12 grandchildren, the joys of his life: Cason, Anna, Christian, Mark, Izzy, Remi, Vincent, Charlie, Sophia, Colton, Wyatt, and Baby Boy due in July.
Bob grew up in the in the Kansas City Northeast area and attended St. Stephen’s Grade School and Glennon High School. He played football and basketball at St. Mary’s of the Plains College. Bob proudly served his country in the Vietnam War from 1965-1967. He worked as a Propulsion Engineer at TWA/American Airlines for 30 years. This provided the opportunity for him to take his family on many unforgettable vacations around the world.
Bob was an avid outdoorsman and sportsman. He loved the family farm where he fished, hunted, played on the tractors and bulldozers, and watched his kids and grandkids play. He had a passion for flying and purchased his airplane so that he could take all his kids up in it as often as possible.
Bob’s strong faith in the Catholic Church was always a constant comfort and inspiration to him. He was a long time member of Nativity of Mary Parish.
Rest in peace Papa the Great…until we see you again!
The Rosary will be prayed at 5:30pm Thursday, June 4, 2020 followed by visitation until 8pm at Nativity of Mary Catholic Church. Because of the Covid-19 pandemic restrictions and regulations set in place by state/local government and the Kansas City/St. Joseph Catholic Dioceses, guests will remain outside of the church during the visitation and will be let in to greet the family on a rotating basis. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10am Friday, June 5, 2020 at the church. There will only be a limited amount of people, including family that will be allowed into the church for the Mass because of the restrictions. The Mass will be live streamed on the McGilley Sheil Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/McGilleyAndSheil. Burial with Military Honors will take place in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
