Bob was born in Traverse City on February 7, 1955 to parents Charles and Clarice (Barber) McNair. He attended Kingsley High School, after which, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. Bob enjoyed a 20 year career with the Air Force, serving as an instructor while in Biloxi, Mississippi and serving for many years in Korea. He was an avid sports fan and belonged to the Summit City Grange and the American Military League.
While in the Air Force, Bob served in the Philippines and met Lucresia Patagnan Smith. They married in 1978 and had two children together. Those two children, Charles “Turkey” McNair and Ruby “Brat” Nakanishi survive Bob. He is also survived by grandchildren, Vincent Verdugo, Christian and Nikko Nakanishi, great-grandchild, Maddox “Little Max” Verdugo, siblings, Karlene (Joe) Kaltenbach, Polly (Wayne) Piltz, Dave (Jenny) McNair and Cindy Parsons, several nieces and nephews and a vast network of friends near and far, including Missy, Steve, Ray and Bonnie. Bob’s beloved pets Mac and Tiger will also miss him dearly.
Preceding him in death are his parents, brothers Charles Neil “Mickey” McNair and Merv McNair and his nephew, Parker McNair.
Visitation will be at Covell Funeral Home in Kingsley on the evening of Wednesday, June 10th. Due to the indoor gathering restrictions, we are asking that anyone interested in attending please call Covell Funeral Home at (231) 946-6515 to reserve a time to come and pay your respects. The funeral home will also be hosting a Facebook Live event beginning at 7:30 pm.
Mr. McNair will be laid to rest with Military Honors at Walton Junction Cemetery in Fife Lake on Thursday, June 11th at 1:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Summit City Grange or the American Legion Post 219 in Fife Lake.
