June 12, 2020 at Calvary Hospital Bronx, NY following a brief illness.
Born on September 23, 1931 in the sleepy rural town of Egypt, Alabama, she
was the only child of James and Leola Segrest McDonald. She grew up and
was educated in Tuskegee, Alabama; home of the historic WWII Tuskegee
Airmen. Her proudest youthful memory was being a member of the high
school track team when on two occasions she defeated team mate and
future 1948 U. S. Women's Track and Field Olympian Nell Jackson.
On August 3, 1947, she married George Arthur Williams (late) in Tuskegee.
They were married for 59 years. The family moved to White Plains, NY in
1951, and some years later settled in Yonkers, NY, where they raised six
children and two grandchildren, Tommi Laurice and Antonio.
She was a member and Church Mother at Yonkers InnerFaith Church.
Her earlier memberships include the VFW Post #532 Women's Auxiliary,
the Hollows Democratic Steering Committee, as well as serving on several
local civic organization boards.
Loretha's absolute greatest joy was fishing -- from sun up to sun down.
She leaves to cherish her memory, a daughter, Janis Thomas of Yonkers, sons, Michael
of Yonkers, Ret. SSG Marc (Rebecca) Williams of Texas, a son-in-law Cecil
Jenkins; 15 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great
grandchildren and a large and loving church family.
In addition to her husband she was predeceased by sons Vaughn, Sr.,
George, Jr, a daughter, Cheryl Jenkins and granddaughter Tawanna
Bitting.
She will always be remembered for her humor, sharp wit and loving
nature. **Anyone wishing to make a donation in her name is asked to give
to Calvary Hospital at www.calvaryhospitalorg/donatenow.
