Gloria Jane “Janie” Wagoner Wishon was the youngest of seven children born to her parents, Charlie and Ruby Wagoner. She was also the only surviving daughter. Janie’s family was from Luther, Oklahoma where she grew up and attended school there. She met and married Larry Wishon of Edmond, where they lived and had three children; two daughters and one son. Even though they were divorced for many years, Janie remained great friends with Larry and his wife Ethel. After their divorce, she put herself through nursing school and earned her LPN degree. Janie worked at the VA Hospital in Oklahoma City for many years, where she took great pride in caring for our veterans.
Janie enjoyed country music and being outdoors in her flower garden. She was also a great cook. However, her passion was her family, her children, their children, and her great-grandchildren. She loved and adored each and every one of them.
Proverbs 31:20-21 is a great description of the servant hearted woman she was. It reads, “she opens her hands to the poor and reaches out her hands to the needy. She is not afraid of snow for her household, for all her household are clothed in scarlet.” She always took care of those around her. She was a great seamstress; sewing beautiful dresses for little girls, men’s shirts, and some really cool cruising hats.
Monday, June 15, 2020, Janie left this earth and went to her forever home in Heaven. Janie is preceded in death by her infant son Richard Scott; parents Charlie and Ruby Wagoner; brothers Cecil, Jack, Charles, and Bob; and her sister Bonnie.
Janie will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by her daughters Kim Wishon Gatewood and husband Mike and Lori Wishon McDonald. She leaves behind her beloved grandchildren: Allicia Payne of Chickasha; Kaylea and Thomas Kobyluk of Edmond; Libby Lay and her fiance’ Travis of Oklahoma City; Josh Lay of Oklahoma City; Gabe Lay of Oklahoma City; Miles Gatewood of Oklahoma City; Mallary Gatewood of Oklahoma City; and Emily McDonald of Oklahoma City.
Janie was blessed to get to meet her nine great-grandchildren: Charlea Ray being the oldest who shared birthdays with her Gigi followed by Laney Kay, Cozee May, Julia Virginia, Harley Zac, Ava Jane, Veda Lea, Landrey Fay, and Elliott Ann. She was also a very special aunt to her many nieces and nephews.
