Mrs. Norma Jean Duckett, age 79, of Powder Springs, Georgia, passed away Sunday, June 14, 2020. She was born July 1, 1940 in Springfield, Illinois. She graduated from Athens High School in Athens, Alabama. A caring and family-oriented woman, she was supportive of her son’s military career, staying in touch by phone and writing letters; and living near her granddaughter, she played an active role in her life. Norma worked as an office manager and dental assistant for various offices in and around the Metro Atlanta area. The career she treasured most was that of homemaker. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, preparing meals and trying new recipes. She loved to read, play board games and was Elvis Presley’s biggest fan.
Preceding her in death were her beloved husband of 18 years, Paul B. Duckett; her daughter, Rhonda Faye Payne; and her parents, Ralph and Mary Rogers.
She is survived by her son, Aaron E. (Debra) Smith of Madison, Alabama; brothers, Raymond (Rebecca) Rogers and Michael (Linda) Rogers; sister, Sandra (Wade) Kelley; grandchildren, Whitney (Will) Pirkle of Carrollton, Georgia, SSgt David Smith stationed at Osan, South Korea, Michael Smith of Huntsville, Alabama and Andrew Smith of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; great-grandson, Carter Pirkle; as well as lots of nieces, nephews and cousins.
A private family service is planned.
