She is survived by her three daughters, Kristine Michelle Bliss, Karron Marie Hohe and Michael Ann Gabrelcik, her brother William J. Phalen, as well as 10 Grandchildren, 17 Great Grandchildren, and 4 Great Great Grandchildren.
As a child, she lived through the Great Depression and had her first job as a nanny by age 6, as a teenager she loved to go to ballroom dances. She was a devout Catholic and received her First Communion on May 22nd, 1935 at St. Joseph’s Church in Springfield, Illinois. Roselen was married to Allan S. Lindemann on February 24th, 1945 in Albion, Michigan and they moved to San Diego, CA in 1945 shortly after the end of World War II. The trip west to California was one of Roselen’s many train rides, which was one of her favorite ways to travel, although this trip in 1945 was standing room only.
Just prior to moving to California, Roselen and Allan were in New York as he was honorably discharged from the US Navy which also coincided with VJ Day and the festivities celebrating the end of the War. Upon her arrival to San Diego she was most excited to see Torrey Pines and the Pacific Ocean.
Not long after moving to San Diego, Roselen gave birth to her daughter’s Kristine on June 22nd, 1946 and Karron on August 30th, 1948. In 1953 the family moved from San Diego to Tucson, Arizona. In Tucson, Roselen was hired by Hughes Aircraft in 1955. In 1959 the family were back in San Diego. Roselen gave birth to her daughter Michael Ann on June 14th, 1963. Once Roselen returned to San Diego, it was the place she called home for the remainder of her life. She was a Union Steward and worked at General Dynamics Electronics starting in 1960 until her retirement in March, 1991.
Roselen was as serious about having fun as she was about her work, she loved to travel even in retirement. She loved to take flights to places like Las Vegas and Puerto Vallarta and cross-country train rides to see family back in Illinois. She was the queen of the slot machines and liked her Budweiser in a bottle and coffee black. Roselen was a driven, brilliant and loving woman whose family was her greatest accomplishment and legacy.
We will all miss her and know she has had safe passage to heaven.
