It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, while at the same time celebrate her homegoing. She was preceded in death by her parents Tom and Irene Leatherwood, husband (Lloyd), one granddaughter, two sisters, and six brothers. There remains her son, Richard (Roxanne), and two daughters Carolyn Murphy and Linda Ashe (Orville), six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, and her brother Max Leatherwood (Angela).
In the early 50's she and her family moved to Daytona Beach and became a part of White Chapel Church of God in South Daytona. She was active in the Women's Missionary Society and absolutely loved working in their thrift shop. She enjoyed singing, whether at church or at home. She was a wonderful southern cook. Her biscuits were famous among her family and friends and readily available.
Hazel loved people and always had open ears to listen and an open heart to love. Her strong arms comforted many through the years. She had a talent for sewing and made the southern-style dresses for Aunt Catfish's "cousins" for several years. Her laugh was contagious and never far away.
The last verse of a poem written by her former pastor says it well:
Hazel's house is filled with folks who come
Though most of her family is gone from home.
But the world of Hazel is a lovely place,
The crossroad of people and heaven's grace.
