Dale Martin Hughey, 73, of Round Rock, TX, passed away on June 18, 2020 at MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX. He was born to Herschel and Madlyn Hughey on September 3, 1946 in Mt. Vernon, IL and was raised in Grand Mound, WA. He graduated from Rochester High School in 1964 and continued service in the Army National Guard until 1969. He worked for the Washington State Department of Transportation for almost a decade and later graduated from Clover Park Technical College, Lakewood, WA as an Airframe and Powerplant Technician. Dale worked 36 years for various aviation operations in Alaska, Washington, Arizona, California and Montana. In addition to a long career as an A&P Technician, Dale was a dedicated volunteer fireman and EMT for over 24 years.
He is preceded in death by his parents. Dale is survived by his wife of 48 years Marcia Hughey, Round Rock, TX; his daughter Jessica Lind (Brandon) of Cedar Park, TX; his sister Kim Harward (Malcolm) of Colora, MD; his cherished grandchildren Kayla and Kyle Lind; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Dale loved being outdoors – especially the mountains. He and his wife, Marcia, spent some wonderful time backpacking in the Olympic Peninsula and along the Pacific Coast Trail of WA. They also explored the Superstition Mountains of AZ, Bucks Lake Wilderness in CA and the Bitterroot and Sapphire Mountains of MT. He enjoyed Mountain Man Rendezvous and had a keen eye and quick response with muzzleloaders. His skill may be attributable to his military background and sharpshooter commendations. Dale and Marcia would often hit the road on his motorcycle and cruise along the open highways, stopping whenever it felt right. As he got older sleeping on the ground occurred a little less often and they eventually bought a R-Pod trailer. New adventures with two wonderful grandkids allowed him to share his love for the outdoors. They explored across the United States - from Texas to Montana and Arizona to the Carolinas. Other activities Dale enjoyed was reloading and target shooting, teaching his grandkids how to use power tools, and being a Watchdog at his grandkids’ elementary school.
The family would like to thank Texas Oncology Round Rock and MD Anderson Cancer Center Houston for the care and compassion given to Dale. Due to Covid-19 there are no services scheduled at this time.
