Mr. Davis was born August 3rd, 1937 in Etowah, TN, where he lived until he enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of seventeen. Serving twenty-three years in The United States Navy was his greatest privilege and honor. He served aboard The USS Trathen, The USS ORISKANY and was stationed at several bases throughout the country. He was awarded many medals, commendations and 5 bronze stars. His last commission was to the Navy Supply School, Athens, Georgia, where he retired in 1977.
Upon retirement, Mr. Davis settled with his wife and children in Watkinsville, where he lived for over 35 years. He then worked at Wilkins Industries and retired once again. He loved the Georgia Bulldogs and even worked part time at the ticket office for several years. He was a long-time member of the Oconee County Lions Club and received The Melvin Jones Fellowship Humanitarian Award, which is the highest form of recognition for his exemplary service to his club and the community for which it serves. He was a member at Briarwood Baptist Church where he served faithfully as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher. In 2014, he and his wife moved to LaGrange, GA to be closer to family, where they attended First Baptist Church on the Square.
Mr. Davis is survived by his wife of 63 years, Bette Davis; children, Robin & Greg Morris of LaGrange, Jeff & Donna Davis of Lake Park; grandchildren, Laura Lynn Keese (Jon), Matt Morris, Kristin Calvert (Jeff), Karrie Beth Davis (Nick), Britton Davis, Brody Davis; great-grandchildren, Davis, Mary Charles, Ella Kyle, and Tucker Robert, all of whom he adored.
In an abundance of caution for the health and safety of others, the family will be holding a private graveside service and will announce a memorial service at a later date.
