Dean Winfrey Harris, 70, born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida passed away surrounded by his family on June 22, 2020. He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Martha Harris, his brother Charles (Chip) Harris and his son Tyson Harris. He is survived by his children sons, Stephen Harris, Ryan and wife Christina Harris and daughter, Julie Hemingway, his grandchildren Jasmine, Cole, Brandon, Bryson, Kylie and Kayla, sister in law Janet Harris and niece Adrienne Wilson.
Dean was a lifelong resident of Jacksonville, Florida. He graduated from Terry Parker High School in 1967 and joined the United States Army in 1969. While serving in the Army, he achieved the rank of E6. He was awarded the good conduct medal, National Defense Service Medal, Expert field Medical Badge and Sharpshooter (M-16). While enlisted, he attended Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington D.C. and was a Licensed Practical Nurse and completed Dermatology Specialist school. Leaving the Army with an honorable discharge he went on to work in the Safety and Compliance industry.
Dean’s passion was music, and it began on the bass guitar. He first picked up a guitar in 1963 at the age of 14 and never put it down. He also played the trumpet for the Braves at Terry Parker High School. After high school, he went on to play with several local bands over the years including Back in Time Band, Second Helping and The Wildflowers.
Dean was a loving Husband, Father, Grandfather (they called him Babew, Brandon gave him that name) Brother and Uncle to all his family. Dean’s hobbies included his friends, fishing, hiking and bicycling. He loved guns, knives and martial arts. He loved to attend baseball and football games with his grandchildren. He also loved to take them to the local parks to spend quality time with them.
Funeral Service will be held on June 29, 2020 at 9:00 am at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Chapel, 4801 SAN JOSE BLVD, JACKSONVILLE, FL. Committal Service will be held on June 29, 2020 at 9:00 am at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Chapel, 4801 SAN JOSE BLVD, JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA 32207.
