He was born in Sarajevo, Bosnia & Herzegovina, on May 20, 1946. At a young age, he moved back to his family home in Banjaluka, Bosnia, where he spent the first half of his life. He graduated from the University of Sarajevo with a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering. While working full time at consulting firm Plan, he obtained a Master’s Degree from the University of Zagreb in Croatia. In his spare time, he avidly enjoyed playing chess, loved to learn foreign languages, and spend summers travelling across Europe and the United States.
It was at Plan where he met his future wife Svjetlana. They got married and their son Damir was born shortly after. Everyday life was disrupted as the civil war broke out in Bosnia, and the family was forced to leave and spend the next few years living in Aachen, Germany. Enes managed to continue his career there, but the family had to relocate once again at the end of the Bosnian war. They came to Winnipeg, where Enes started a new and final chapter in his life. He became a recognized Professional Engineer and worked at Boge & Boge Consulting until his retirement. He continued playing chess, became very passionate about classical music and paintings. His love for history and geography expanded his interests into learning about Canada, and particularly Manitoba. While still visiting his home country almost every year, he and Svjetlana loved travelling to many new places and took every opportunity to hike and enjoy nature together.
He will always be remembered for dedication to his family, work, and his sense of humor, as his original funny phrases will stay in the memory of his loved ones forever.
Enes is remembered by his loving wife Svjetlana and son Damir; daughter-in-law Connie; sister Enisa “Beba” (Aleksandar), Jasminka “Minka” (Hans); in-laws Mira (Vladimir); niece and nephew Zlatka & Bojan; and many more cousins and family members around the world.
A private interment for the family will be held at St. Vital Cemetery, followed by a private service for family and close friends, at Thomson “In the Park” Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Manitoba, 120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2.
