He served in the US Army and was part of the 15th Constabulary Squadron (1949-1952). He was a Disabled American Veteran and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a proud graduate of Stuyvesant High School and Queens College.
He married Evelyn Pospisil in 1950 and resided in Jackson Heights, Flushing and Nanuet, New York. He was a pitcher for the Bulova Watch Company employee baseball team. He retired from his job as a Compliance Officer for the U.S. Department of Labor – OSHA in 1990. He enjoyed all his friends at the New City III Senior Club. His passion was fishing and crabbing on the Hudson River and playing cards and all sorts of games with his family and friends. He had a “secret handshake”.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Evelyn; and will be lovingly remembered by his two devoted daughters and sons-in-law: Linda (Adam Taff) and Marilyn (Steven Klein); two treasured grandchildren - - Sarah Klein (Chris) and Jeremy Klein (Dana) and was “Great Popsy” to Ella Rylan. He will also be lovingly remembered by his dear girlfriend, Dina Francovilla and her family along with his many cousins in the Czech Republic.
Visitation (with mask and social distancing) will be held on Monday, June 29th from 3 – 6 p.m. at Higgins Funeral Home, 321 S. Main Street, New City, NY. Burial at St. Michael’s Cemetery in Astoria, New York will be private.
A “Celebration of His Life” will be held at a future date when we can all gather together and honor him.
