Christine Charlotte Hopper, passed into eternal rest on June 26, 2020, after a short illness while at the Merridan in Galveston, Texas. She was born December 31, 1948 in Eunice, Louisiana. Christine was a loving and loved daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother.
Christine was retired from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston where she managed the optical shop, and also from Dr. R.B. Matocha Optomitrist in Galveston. She was an exceptional cook (taught by her grandmother in Louisiana where she spent most of her summers before raising her family) and her food was loved by all who were lucky enough to savor it. She enjoyed playing gin rummy and Texas Hold-Em with her many friends.
Christine is preceded in death by her mother and father Margaret and Denford Bergeaux and brothers Michael and James (Jimmy) Bergeaux and son Charles Conway Koehler.
Left to cherish her memories are brother Dennis Bergeaux; granddaughter Taylor Koehler, loving husband John M. Schreiber and many other aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, and a very special cousin Deannie Van Holm, and best friend forever Linda Salazar.
Christine will always be remembered as a very giving and caring person who always "turned the other cheek."
A family funeral will be conducted at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, Texas 77039. Visitation will be Thursday, July 2, 2020 from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., with the funeral to begin promptly at 2:30 p.m. The interment will follow immediately after service in Brookside Memorial Park.
