FAIRLIE, Gladys May, was born February 21,1925 in Montreal, QC. On June 26, 2020, she passed away peacefully with dignity at the Remembrance Pavillion, Ste Anne de Bellevue, QC. in her 95th year of her beautiful life.
She was the daughter of David Fairlie and Lizzie G.Irvine. Predeceased by her brother and sisters, Norman, Willa and Netta.
She will be fondly remembered by her Fairlie and Irvine cousins. Always the cherished Aunt of David, Barry, Norman, Douglas, Laurie, Stephen, Deena. Susan, Debbie, Mark. (Brian, Barbara, Jamie, Karen deceased) along with all of their children and descendants. Over the many decades of her life, she had a feeling of deep pleasure as the matriarch of her family and a 3Xs Great Aunt, fulfilling 5 generations. Gladys touched and brought joy to all and we are blessed with her grand legacy.
Throughout her life she was an independent strong minded woman with a loving and giving heart. Her generousity went beyond her family to numerous charities and her church. Being an avid reader, she was constantly educating herself on life and was well versed with current affairs. She had too many to mention interesting hobbies. When it comes to her culinary skills, who can forget her baking and famous shortbread cookies. Family was always in the forefront of her values.
As a career woman, Gladys was a well respected employee of Canada Malting Ltd. for well over 40 years, the early period in Montreal and the later in Toronto until her retirement in 1986.
Another accurate account of her life would be her wonderful appetite for travel. This often inspired her adventures in Canada from coast to coast and many of the states in the USA, then leading to touring several parts of Europe. Scotland, the birth place of her parents and forebears, was ultimately her most desired and travelled destination.
Over the years, with Gladys’s strong Scottish Heritage and pride, she passionately pursed her quest researching her family history and shared a treasure trove of tales about her ancestors.
A special thank you and gratitude to the exceptional staff at the Remembrance Pavillion for the care and empathy throughout the time Gladys was a resident. A heartfelt thank you to the Chateau Pierrefond’s owners and caregivers for her last 7 years residing with them.
She will be sadly missed but not forgotten.
A memorial for her will be held at a later date.
