Ted Batson passed into the loving arms of Jesus Christ on June 27, 2020. Ted was born on August 2, 1944 in New Orleans, LA, and he was the oldest of Dr. Hiram Batson and Leta Covington Batson’s four children. At age nine his family moved to Brookhaven, Mississippi, where Ted graduated from Brookhaven High School in the class of 1962. He continued his education at Tulane University and graduated from Mississippi State University. During his time at MSU, Ted met his wife Judy Waters Batson, whom he married in May 1966. He worked in television sales advertising for many years in Memphis, Nashville, Atlanta, and Jackson, before joining Judy in the real estate business in 1997.
Ted loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ above all. He was a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church in Madison, Mississippi, and he dearly loved his church and church family, including pastor Bob Lane and his wife Kay Lane, as well as the church elders and deacons. For many years Ted and his wife Judy displayed their love for Jesus by advocating for the lives of unborn children through the ministry of Pro-Life MS.
Ted is preceded in death by his parents and survived by his two brothers, Jim Batson (Nancy) and Bryan Batson (Christie), and his sister, Leta Branch (Charles). He is also survived by the love of his life, Judy Batson, his two children, Lee Batson (Sandy) and Beth Rigney (Mark), and his five grandchildren, Corey Batson, Avery Batson, Anslee Batson, Maeve Rigney, and James Rigney. Additionally, Ted is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews, and cousins all of whom were precious and dear to him.
The family would also like to remember Ted Batson as he was in life. His sharp wit was one of a kind, and he enjoyed healthy debates with family and friends. Ted was many things: a whitewater canoe instructor, a H.A.M radio operator, a French horn and trumpet player, a guitar player, a gifted singer, a superfan of Mississippi State sports, and a diehard fan of Rush Limbaugh. Ted Batson was all of these things, but most importantly, he was ours. He was our father, grandfather, cousin, brother, husband, or friend. We love him and will miss him dearly. His memory will be with us forever.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 3rd at 11:00am at First Presbyterian Church of Madison, MS.
The family would like to thank Fresenius Kidney Care and all of the numerous nurses, social workers, and doctors for their loving and special care of Ted during the last year and a half of his life.
