Larry Lee Davis was born January 10, 1942 to the late Estelle Lee Davis and
James A. Davis in Starkville, Mississippi. He graduated from Starkville High School and
received his engineering degree from Mississippi State University in 1965. Larry then
began his life on the Gulf Coast and his professional career at Ingalls Shipbuilding. He
started in submarine engineering and progressed through shipbuilding management
holding leadership positions until he retired in 2004. Larry also served in the office of
program support, manufacturing plans for new ship designs. Much of his career
involved training teams of engineers and planners working toward improving the
ship building process. He was a mentor to many young engineers. Larry was a member
of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers as well as the Society of Naval
Engineers.
His lifetime hobbies included amateur radio operation and building/flying radio-controlled
airplanes. Larry enjoyed his time hunting and fishing and was a life member
of Moss Hill Sportsman Club. He was a member of several mystic organizations and a
dedicated parishioner of St. Ignatius Catholic Church.
He is proceeded in death by his parents and brother James T. Davis of Tupelo,
MS. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Blakely Haas Davis, his best friend and cousin,
Louie Bigham (Clarise) of Newton, MS. and cousins Delbert McMillan (Sherland), Rosa
Morgan, Terry and Jerry Howard, Pauline Fulcher and his beloved Mobile family Appie
Haas O’Melia (Tom), Olivia Iturbe (Trey), Appleton Weston (Jeff), Virginia Cook (Miles),
Haas Nye (Scott), Richard Shaner Jr. (Amy), and his very special great-nieces and
nephews.
A private graveside service will be held at Pine Crest Cemetery on July 1 at
10:00am.
