Phyllis Porter, age 97, of Melbourne, FLorida passed away on Tuesday June 30, 2020. Phyllis was born March of 1923 in West Liberty, Iowa and spent much of her childhood and early adult life in Iowa. She was preceded in death by her beloved spouse George Porter, a World War II US based veteran. She loved working at Iowa Wesleyan College admission‘s office where she could spend time with many of the students on campus. Together with Jane and Phil, they made several moves throughout Iowa and Illinois enjoying life and making friends in Mt. Pleasant, IA and Princeton, IL and Wayland, IA. And then finding their way to Melbourne, FL where they joined Jane and her sons and thoroughly enjoyed the community gaining more new friends at Carriage Oaks and throughout Melbourne, FL.
She will be interned at the West Liberty Oak Ridge Cemetery in West Liberty, Iowa along with many of her family members. Surviving family are her daughter Jane Voelcker McCoy, grandsons Donald and Daniel Voelcker, son Philip (Linda) Porter, grandson Josh (Sarah) Porter and grandson Alex Porter, and great grand children Kendall and Joshua Porter.
We have decided that with Covid 19, no service will be held in Melbourne, FL. I will join up with mom in West Liberty at a later date for final good bye’s.
Her home at Century Oaks provided her an excellent home environment, care and a family with many friends. HealthFirst Hospice and specifically the “William Childs Hospice House” provided exceptional care and oversight the past several weeks keeping her comfortable.
