At age 10, Lou and her family moved to Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. After graduating high school in 1949, she went on to attend Ohio University, earning her Bachelor's Degree in Education in 1953. Lou then taught elementary school for eight years.
After years of childhood friendship, Lou and Dave Bowers fell in love and married on June 9, 1957. Dave and Lou moved to Ann Arbor, MI as Dave pursued his Doctorate in psychology. They both enjoyed Ann Arbor and decided to make it their permanent home.
Dave and Lou had two children, David G. Bowers, Jr. and Stephen E. Bowers. After staying home to raise her boys, Lou pursued a second career as a sales clerk at Jacobson’s Department Store, retiring in 2002.
Lou enjoyed spending as much time as possible at the family vacation home at Hubbard Lake. She and Dave spent many summers lakeside with their dear friends, the Bachman’s.
Lou was always known for her kindness towards others, big heart, warm smile, and great sense of humor. In her retirement years she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and vacationing at Hubbard Lake.
Lou is preceded in death by her loving husband Dave Bowers, parents Alfred and Mary Humphrey, and sister Edith Hoch. She is survived by her sons Dave Bowers (Peggy), Steve Bowers (Julie) and her grandchildren Megan, Emily, Joe, and Abby Bowers.
