Bob grew up in the Bronx with his parents Rose (née Glick) and Max Frey and his grandparents Sophie and Jacob Glick. He attended the Bronx High School of Science and studied civil engineering at City College of New York. During the course of his career, Bob worked in Oakland and San Francisco, California, Paris, London, The Hague, and in Houston, Texas. He loved sharing his memories of the places his family had lived and of the other countries he had traveled to.
Bob loved his family. He was clever, smart, and funny. He was bright and lively. He loved the Yankees, classical music, playing the piano, golf, and all types food except beets which were off limits. He was often doing something funny. One of his wife’s Marcia’s memories was when she found a relaxing place to sit while the family was on a cruise. It was very windy so when Bob walked by with his body slanted one way and his ear lobes flapping in the wind, she wasn’t relaxed anymore because she thought it was so funny. He told his daughters that in high school, he scored a 3 out of 100 on a true/false test about the novel "A Tale of Two Cities". Sharon (daughter) pointed out that if he had answered the questions either all true or all false, then given probability, it was likely that his score would have been closer to 50. He has been described a mensch – someone who is likeable and a person of integrity - but once when he was in the army, he was on watch and left his post to be with Marcia. His daughters fondly remember when they were young waking up to treasure hunts he had planned for them with color coded notes of clues. Bob’s granddaughter warmly remembers him teaching her duets on the piano, performing card tricks, and “spoiling” his dinner with snacks.
Bob is survived by his wife, Marcia Frey, his daughters Sharon Frey and Elaine Kracht, son-in-law Joe Kracht, and his grandchildren Sean and Erin Kracht.
