He was born on 11 May 1929 to Valerio and Anselma Paras in Bonuan Gueset Dagupan City Philippines. His family and friends in the Philippines knew him by his childhood nickname of Monding. He was youngest and last of seven brothers. After graduating from Dagupan City high school he went to work as a painter in Guam then served in the Philippine Army before he joined the Navy at Sangley Point Cavite Manila. It was during his naval career that he referred to himself as Alex. He retired from the Navy after 20 year of service then he worked for the US Post Office until 1992.
In 1959 he married Lily Cruz Ferrer. Their marriage lasted almost 61 years. They have three children: Darwin, Chiarme and Wenonah; six grandchildren: Dr. Alexander Thomas Paras, Jacqueline Paras Comardo, Dr. Brittney Ann Macdonald, Leah Marie Campbell, Douglas Macdonald and Nathaniel Macdonald and one great grandson Conor Comardo. Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather he will be sorely missed but never forgotten.
